About
EcoCommunity Albuquerque was born out of the idea to create a unified community that boasts of its focus to its people, its environment, and its growth. Modern times has brought about an ever growing awareness to the individual and its impact to the larger world around them. Yet counter intuitively, we have also burst with sudden dependencies upon corporations and policies that harm the individual and the world to which we all exist. EcoCommunity Albuquerque strives not to combat the ever changing status quo and push for grandeur but rather takes an introspective approach to combat the issues arising within our own communities.

EcoCommunity Albuquerque will serve our community by compiling ethical, environmentally friendly, local businesses and resources into one web-based map. This map will be able to be accessed by anyone. The goal of the map is to bridge the gap between the individual and conscious decisions to which they can be proud. Our goal is that through compiling price points, locations, and service hours for various businesses that individuals who are adversely affected can still be able to make decisions they wish to be making. We no longer want to support the notion that only the rich and privileged can be part of the changing world but rather even those most impacted by circumstance. While a map won’t fix a lot of the problems that impact the various communities that dot Albuquerque, but we hope it will empower even a few to be able to move forward and be part of something greater. That’s the beauty of EcoCommunity Albuquerque, eco-communities across the globe are springing up and at the center of them is the individual being fully taken care of, which is exactly what we want for our community.
Individuals...
...are typically put on the back burner when it comes to city progress and economic development, but with our community, we want to reverse that role. One of the most important focuses of EcoCommunity Albuquerque is to empower individuals. We want everyone to have the freedom to make their own decisions, to be able to be active members of a larger community, have their mental and physical health prioritized, and themselves valued as more than just consumers. This might seem like a lot to achieve but it all goes hand in hand with one another. Local businesses often provide the best help for local community members, offer initiatives to reach their communities, and strive to make the best impressions with those around them. In helping to spread that information, we are bridging the gap that many companies need in order to reach those who need them most.
Our Environment...
...is often the one to foot the bill for the growing demand of society, declining biodiversity, invasive species overtaking native ones, devastated soil health, and destruction of natural environmental processes that replenishes important vitamins and minerals. Even more so, the more noticeable, is the demolition of our beautiful nature that encompasses us all. With EcoCommunity Albuquerque, our focus on businesses that take stances and action to decrease their environmental toll is a step for individuals to change their own impact. Even the smallest of steps can slowly add up to a radically different approach to what the environment means to a community. Working together will enable all of us to have the strength to replenish our environment while also protecting it from future damages.
The Economy...
...is often discussed but few dare to challenge just how much we as individuals can impact it. “Voting with your dollar” has become a saying of our time, promoting the fundamental sway the consumer does have on companies. EcoCommunity Albuquerque takes this idea to the next level by reminding individuals that our dollar can be put back into our micro-economy as opposed to the grand economy composed of conglomerates, million dollar megacorporations, the rich elites, and other micro-economies that benefit from our hard work. By investing your money in local businesses, that money stays local and circulates around our entire city as opposed to leaving us entirely. Your dollar is transformed into something that helps your neighbor, then theirs, then countless others, even working its way back to yourself.
The Power of Community...
...is so often underrated yet they are the perfect insight into the health of the individual. Society everyday is being pushed further and further apart while simultaneously craving to be connected. EcoCommunity Albuquerque strives to rebuild these connections and foster community growth. Improving community connections and growth creates a cycle of growth and improvement within the communities that have been built up. With our project focusing on individual, environmental, and economic well-being the growing community would reflect those ideologies as well.
Mission
Our mission is that by May 2022, we will have twenty-five fully incorporated businesses into our web-based map. We don’t want to stop there, nor do we think this will be representative of the vast amount of businesses that expand across Albuquerque that match our goals, but it’s at least a start. With each new connection, we hope it fosters countless more from either business or “consumer” connections.
Vision
When all is said and done, our vision is to create an Albuquerque to which we can all be proud. Our community strives to create an Albuquerque that focuses on an individual’s physical and mental well being, fosters community growth and activism, coexists with natural environments, has a flourishing economy, and continuously strives to do better each day. It might sound like a lot to ask of a city, but with enough of us banding together to show exactly what we want, it will be undeniable.
